The Center offers a wide variety of classes and activities
which are open to individuals of all ages.


ART CLASS  -  Instruction given in water colors, oils and acrylics.  Instructor Genevieve Ziemian.   Class meets each Monday at  1:00 pm.  Fee $2.00 per class.   

BINGO – Every Wednesday, at 1:30 pm.

BOWLING - Join Lori Stacy for  bowling at the Palmer Lanes on Monday afternoons from 1 – 3 p.m.  Cost is $8.00 for 3 strings.  Transportation will be available if needed.  All are welcome.  Call the Center for more information and to sign up.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES - On the second Tuesday of each month we have a celebration for all seniors who were born in that month  We have a beautiful cake, and lots of fun. What a wonderful way to celebrate your special day.  Just call the Center and register by 9:00 am, the morning of the parties.  Be sure to let us know if it is your Birthday so we can provide you with a complimentary lunch and gift.

CERAMICS  -   We offer a variety of ceramic pieces to paint and fire, including seasonal items.  Classes meet every Thursday at 9:30 am.  Attend one or both weekly classes. Instructor Elizabeth Lisowski.  Fee $2.50 per class, including firing.

CHAIR EXERCISE -  Classes will meet each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30 am at the Senior Center.  Chair Exercise promotes good circulation and muscle tone.  This is an excellent program for those who have difficulty moving.  Instructors:  Peg Harrison and Jane Jacobs. No Fee.

COMPUTER TRAINING  -  Various classes offered through the year.  Check calendar for current classes.   Instructors and fees vary with classes.

CRAFT CLASSES - Various classes offered through the year.  Check calendar for current classes.  Instructors and fees vary with different classes.

CRIBBAGE  -  From beginner to experienced players.  A fun time!  Players meet each Tuesday at 1:00 pm.  No Fee.

CROCHETING & KNITTING CIRCLE  -  This group makes hats & booties for preemie babies at Baystate Hospital, afghans for “Keep Warm America” and items for various other charities.  Instructor Darlene Yiznitsky.   The Circle meets every Tuesday at 10:00am.  No Fee.

LIBRARY DAY   --   The third Tuesday of each month the Monson Free Library comes to the Center.  This is a convenient way to pick-up and return your reading materials to the Library.  An assortment of items are made available every month including large print books, books on tape, movies etc.  Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

LINE DANCING  -  Open line dancing every Friday from 10:00 am to Noon to the musical sounds of “Eddie C”.

LUNCH BUNCH – Once a month this group meets at the Center and travels to a different restaurant for lunch.   Transportation provided.   Reservations needed to plan for transportation.  The Lunch Bunch travels the first Thursday of every month.

MEMOIRS GROUP - Seniors share the memories of their lives and how things "used to be" in Monson. Thanks to Chuck Malloy, our video taper, the Center and each individual sharing their story receive a copy of the session. Two volunteers came forward to verbally interview several more seniors, and then type out their interview in story form retaining a copy for the Center and for each individual to treasure. The group usually meets the 3rd Monday of the month.Call Annie with any questions.

PITCH  -    Tournament Play. Contact Center to enroll.  Pitch players meet every Thursday at 1:30.  The last day of the tournament is Thursday, April 24, 2008.  The Banquet will be Thursday, May 1, 2008.

S.A.L.T. - Is a community policing initiative between the seniors, the Monson Police Department, the Monson Fire Department and the Monson Council on Aging to increase safety through education and crime prevention.   The Group meets the second Tuesday of  every other month at 4:00 P.M. at the Center. It’s goals are:
v       To reduce criminal activity which targets older citizens
v       To alleviate seniors’ fear of victimization, build confidence, and improve their quality of life
v       To enhance delivery of law enforcement and safety services to older citizens.
Individuals of all ages are welcome to join the S.A.L.T. initiative.

SENIOR CITIZENS’ CLUB - The Club meets the first Wednesday of every month immediately following lunch here at the Center.  The annual membership fee is $3.00.

STRENGTH TRAINING  -  Particularly beneficial for osteoporosis prevention. Exercise every Monday and Thursday at 9:00 am., in the gym at 110 Main Street.  Pat Nothe instructor.

VETERANS’ DISCUSSION GROUP  -  Join the fun whether you are a veteran or just a history buff.  Great discussions and refreshments.   The discussions are held the second Friday of each month.  Bob Horacek facilitator.

W.O.W. (Walking Our Way…to better health) - Grab those walking shoes and let’s be a part of Monson’s Million Miles.   Join in walking with Lori on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m.  We’ll start on April 9th and go through to August 29th.  If you are unable to walk with us as a group that doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of the million miles.  We’ll meet at the Center and begin our walk from there.   It will not only be good for our health but our minds and spirits as well.  Call the Center by April 1st and let us know you want to become a part of the W.O.W. Group and receive some free goodies. After April 1st if you haven’t signed up you can still join W.O.W. however you will not be able to get the free goodies. Everyone is welcome!


The Council on Aging is always anxious to add activities to our program list.  Anyone interested in starting a new activity should contact Judy at the Center, 267-4121.
