CHAIR EXERCISE
Strength training classes too much? Join the Chair Exercise group that meets 10:30 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at the Center. Chair Exercise promotes good circulation and muscle tone while you securely sit in the chair or stand while holding on. This is an excellent program if you have difficulity moving or are just starting an exercise program. Instructors: Jane Jacobs and Betty Bouchard. No Fee.
FOOTCARE
Pat O'Brien of Pedi-Care will do a nursing assessment of your feet, cut and file nails, reduce calluses, give a therapeutic massage and make referrals to podiatrist, if necessary. NO DIABETICS PLEASE. FEE: $28.00. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Appointments required, see calendar or call the Center for scheduled dates. Monson residents only.
HEARING SPECIALIST
Deborah P. Stroetzel, MA CCC-A, Audiologist at Wing Memorial Hospital will be here to test your hearing and your hearing aids. Why suffer with hearing problems when it may be corrected? Open to all ages. Appointments necessary, see calendar or call the Center for schedule dates.
HEALTH SCREENING / BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC
Registered Nurses conduct glucose, weight and blood pressure check, the second Wednesday of each month. Appointments appreciated. No Fee, but donations accepted.
PILATES
Classes will meet Monday and Thursday at 10:15 am. Pilates teaches body awareness, good posture, easy graceful movement, and improves flexibility Sign up for only one or both days. $2.00 per class for seniors, $3.00 for non seniors. Classes are held in the gym at 110 Main Street (Town Administration Building) and are offered in conjunction with the Scantic Valley YMCA. SENIOR SWIM
The Monson Park & Recreation Department offers a Senior Swim three days a week – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Swimming is a great way to exercise. As with all types of exercise check with your doctor before starting a new routine, to make sure it is right for you. Discount tickets are available at the pool. You have the option of free swim, lap swim or water aerobics geared to seniors. If you would like to attend and need a ride, call the Center. If our van is not available, maybe we can arrange car pooling.
STRENGTH TRAINING CLASSES
Classes are every Monday and Thursday at 9:00am. Strength Training is particularly beneficial to individuals with osteoporosis. The exercises increase bone density, muscle strength, flexibility, balance and agility with an overall sense of well being. The cost is $2.00 for seniors and $3.00 for non-seniors.
