SENIORS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT TOGETHER
S.A.L.T.
S.A.L.T. is an organization whose primary goals are to reduce the criminal victimization of older citizens and enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to this population. S.A.L.T. provides the opportunity for an exchange of information between law enforcement, supportive services and senior citizens. It focuses on reducing unwarranted fear of crime and improving the quality of life for seniors. S.A.L.T. is an integral part of community policing.
The S.A.L.T. Committee meets at the Senior Center the second Tuesday of every other month, at 4:00 pm.
S.A.L.T. sponsors the following safety items. All are available at the Senior Center.
Emergency Flashing Lights - For only $5.00 each, bulbs fit into any standard socket and turn a regular bulb into a flashing signal to alert emergency personnel or neighbors that help is needed.
Smoke Detectors - FREE - Call the Center and we will contact the Fire Department and someone from the fire department, will install a smoke detector for you.
House Number ID Poles - Recommended by the Fire Department and EMTs to locate your home quickly at the time of an emergency. Especially beneficial if your house sits back from the road. The cost is $8.00 for those age 60+ and $10.00 for those under age 60.
Carbon Monoxide Detectors - One Free Carbon Monoxide Detector available to each senior household in town. Free installation by the Fire Department. Call the Center at 267-4121.
