In order to return to the basic concept of positive face to face contact with our community, the department utilized a portion of our 2007 Community Policing Grant to deploy bicycle patrols in our downtown area and local neighborhoods.
In 2007, the department purchased 2 additional mountain bicycles. Our 4 bicycles and 2 ATVs are routinely used to enhance the police department’s ability to patrol and respond to areas not easily accessible to patrol vehicles such as the wooded areas surrounding our schools, parks, conservation land, trails and other recreation areas. Our bicycles and ATVs are also deployed to provide service at special events such as Summerfest and to support various other community programs. All officers that have expressed an interest in serving on the ATV Unit were sent to formal training in the use and safe operation of these vehicles.
