The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. RAD is not a martial arts program. It is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on self defense training.
The 15 hour course designed for women ages 13 and older is usually broken down into 5, 3 hour sessions offered during the evening hours. Each student is provided with a student workbook/manual that outlines the entire physical defense program and serves as an information source after completion of the course.
Monson’s courses are taught by Off. Kristen Marciniec, Sgt. Jane Jalbert and Off. Shannon Bingle who are each nationally certified RAD instructors.
During 2007, the Monson Police Department conducted 2 RAD Basic Women’s Classes with a total enrollment of 35 students.
RAD Kids is a personal empowering, awareness and safety education program for children aged 5-7 and 8-10. The program combines risk education and physical defense training in hopes of preventing the abduction of children. It provides a consistent, structured, proactive curriculum utilizing fun, interactive exercises creating a dynamic learning environment.
In 2007, the Monson Police Department conducted 1 RAD Kids class that had a total enrollment of 20 school-aged children.
