The School Resource Officer Program is a nationally accepted program which involves the placement of law enforcement officers within the educational environment on several different levels. At the end of the 2006-2007 school year, Monson’s School Resource Officer, Off. Kristen Marciniec, was involved in a variety of functions aimed at crime prevention. Besides being a visible, active law enforcement figure within the schools, the 'SRO' became a valuable resource for students, teachers, administrators and parents.
Unfortunately, School Resource Officer Program was discontinued prior to the start of the 2007-2008 school year. The school budget could no longer support its 50% shared cost of this position. Since the police budget also prevented the hiring of additional officers, Off. Marciniec was reassigned back to a regular patrol position as a means of maintaining level services.
