2006 Junior Police Academy
During the week of April 17-22, 2006, 16 students opted to spend their April vacation attending Monson Police Department's 2nd Annual Junior Police Academy. Dressed in their JPA uniforms, students arrived daily at 8:00 AM for physical training (P.T.) and could be seen marching as a unit, doing push-ups, or yelling out a cadence as the week progressed.
The program, held at the Monson High School, introduced participants to topics such as:
-Forensics
-Police Communications
-Radar/Traffic Enforcement
-Use of Force
-Building Searches
-Accident Reconstruction
-Handcuffing Techniques
Under the instruction of Off. Kristen M. Marciniec and Off. James Dagenais, students learned the value of teamwork and worked together in all that they did.
Guests throughout the week included the Massachusetts Environmental Police, UMass Police Department's Tactical and K-9 Units and UMass Medical Center's Lifeflight Helicopter. Participants were also given a tour of the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree.
The week concluded with a graduation ceremony where friends and family viewed a brief slide show and participants were awarded certificates of completion before enjoying a pizza party lunch.
