Police Department
K-9 Unit
In 2007, the Monson Police Department established its first ever Police K-9 Unit that was made possible through a generous donation from the Milk Bone (R) Canine Heroes program.
Unlike other department’s who utilize K-9's for handler protection or criminal apprehension, Atys, a Black Labrador Retriever, was selected for use in a drug detection, human scent tracking and community policing role.
Atys and Ofc. Arventos have been scheduled to receive additional training in human scent tracking during the early part of 2008.
Since the decision was made to operate our K-9 Unit entirely on donations, this program would not have been possible without the generous contributions from the following individuals and organizations:
Labonte’s Towing
Ray’s Towing and Repair
Lou Rivers Used Cars
Trackside Motors
The Monson Police Department would like to thank each of these donors for providing the Monson Police Department with a valuable tool for helping to make our citizens and community safer.
