Operation Yellow Blitz (10/26/07)

On Tuesday, October 23, 2007, the Monson Police Department and the Monson School Department participated in 'Operation Yellow Blitz'.

'Operation Yellow Blitz' is an appeal by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, in conjunction with local law enforcement and school transportation providers, to draw attention to the national problem of vehicles driving past school buses that are picking-up or discharging pupils.

The Monson Police Department was out specifically looking for motorists that failed to stop for school buses displaying red flashing lights and stop signs.  Violators are subject to a $250 citation under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 90 Section 14.  Subsequent offenses may also result in higher fines or a loss of license.  We are happy to report that officers observed no violations during this initiative.

The Monson Police and School Departments are hoping that you will keep our children's safety in mind whenever you travel around our community.

Please stop for school buses that are displaying stop signs and flashing red lights. You could save a child's life.

Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that is based upon the idea of citizens working with each other and with law enforcement agencies to reduce crime and victimization in the community. It involves:

1. Citizens protecting themselves and their property by using common sense crime prevention practices.

2. Neighbors getting to know each other, watching out for each other and reporting suspicious activities to the Monson Police Department.

3. Citizens working with groups, community leaders, and the Monson Police Department in an effort to promote safety and reduce crime in our community.

Please check back on this web site for further information about the progress of Monson's Neighborhood Watch program.

Netsmartz Internet Safety Presentations (1/31/07)

The Monson Police Department is in the process of distributing the 'NetSmartz Workshop' to the Monson Free Library and the Monson Public Schools.  The workshop is an interactive, educational safety resource from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and Boys and Girls Clubs of America that uses age appropriate, 3-D activities to teach children and teens how to be safer when using the internet.

What makes NetSmartz unique is its use of the latest technology and its availability to the public at no cost.  NetSmartz materials provide a learning experience children will enjoy and understand.  Parents, guardians, educators, government officials, law enforcement and youth organizers can access www.NetSmartz.org to get on and offline activities and ideas for teaching internet safety.

RAD Training Schedule (1/25/07)

Rape Aggression Defense (RAD), is a program of realistic, self defense tactics and techniques.  The RAD system is a comprehensive course for women (ages 13+) that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance while progressing on to the basics of hands on defensive training.  RAD is NOT a martial arts program.
The course is taught by certified RAD instructors and provides you with a workbook/reference manual.  This manual outlines the entire physical defense program for reference and continuous growth.  And better yet, the course is absolutely FREE!

Enrollment for the next scheduled class is now closed. New training dates will be posted as they become available.
