Description
Provides responsible, daily oversight of town operations and assistance to town departments, residents and taxpayers on behalf of the Board of Selectmen.

To provide the taxpayers of the Town of Monson with the best service possible. To ensure that all expenditures made are legal, proper, and consistent with the intent of Town Meeting votes. To maintain and balance the financial records of the Town. To accurately complete all federal, state, and municipal financial reports as required by law. Oversees the financial operations of the Assessor's Office, Collector's Office and Treasurer's Office. Works directly with the town's Finance Committee in formulating departmental budget requests and Reserve Fund transfers. Assists the Town Auditors with financial information required for the annual town audit.
The Treasurer's Department is responsible for receiving all monies belonging to the Town, managing that money to insure maximum cash availabiity and maximum yield on short-term investments. The Department pay bills weekly, once approved by the Selectmen. The Department is also responsible for bi-weekly payroll and distributing to all town departments. It maintains tax title accounts and prepares various year end reports including W-2's for employees and 1099's for independent contractors.The Treasurer manages the medical insurance for town employees and retirees.The Town Treasurer works under the direction of the Finance Director for the town.
Responsible for the billing and collection of all town billed revenue due and owing to the Municipality such as taxes, certain license fees, user's fees, permits, violations, and other department receivables which have been committed for collection. Masschusetts General Laws on Taxation, Chapters 41, 44, 58, 59, 60, 60A, 80 and 90 provide the manner through which the collector derives the authority to proceed to collect and enforce the collection of taxes and all miscellaneous categories committed to them. The Town Collector works under the direction of the Finance Director for the town. PUBLIC HOURS: 9:00 a.m. to Noontime and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Assessors are required by Massachusetts Law to list and value all real and personal property. The Department commits Motor Vehicle excise tax, administers farming, recreational and foresting programs, processes exemptions and abatements, maintains a mapping system for assessment purposes and maintains the computer based inventory and property records, for all land, buildings and businesses within the town of Monson. The Board of Assessors work under the direction of the Finance Director for the town.
The Town Clerk's Office is responsible for maintaining the Town's official records, documents and exercises responsibility for the operation of elections the maintenance of election records, raffle permits, business certificates and dog licenses. The issuance and recording of marriage licenses, birth and death certificates, physician's registrations, and petroleum storage permits. The Clerk's office provides information to and directs inquiries from government agencies and the general public.
Responsible for the issuance of building, electrical, and plumbing permits and their required inspections. The department provides staff support to the Conservation Commission, Planning Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals. The Building Inspector works with the Town Engineer, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Title V Inspector other Town Departments, and is responsible for the enforcement of the Town's zoning bylaws. The Building Inspector is appointed on an annual basis by the Board of Selectmen.
The Monson Police Department provides 24 hour a day, 7 day a week service to the community. Our offices are on the basement level of the Town Administration Building located at the corner of Main and State Streets in Monson.
The Monson Fire Department is a public safety organization that provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to our community. We are committed to the preservation of life, property, and the environment. Through public education and awareness programs, we enhance the quality of life and the safety of the citizens we proudly serve.
Responsible for maintaining and repairing all town owned roads and bridges. On call 24 hours a day, seven days per week to allow for the safe passage on town streets and town owned properties. Monson's Tree Warden is a municipal official who cares for all the shade trees on public lands in town such as parks, town commons, public streets and town forests.
The Monson Water & Sewer Department is committed to servicing customers 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Our goal is to provide a safe, dependable and affordable supply of water. Your support is appreciated as we strive to improve and upgrade the water system while keeping rates below the state average.
Responsible for the Health and well being of the community. Oversees and monitors the town wide trash program, offering 2 Bulk Items days per year in the Spring and Fall at Quarry Hilll Community School. Hazardous Waste Days held every other year in the month of June.

The Monson Free Library and Reading Room Association is a non-profit institution dedicated to serving the educational and recreational needs of the Town of Monson and the surrounding communities through its collections, services, exhibits and programs.
The Town Planner works with various Town officials and the community to identify, plan, and carry out activities that advance the quality of life, preserve natural resources, enhance economic climate of the Town of Monson.
The mission of the Monson Parks & Recreation is to enrich and enhance the quality of life by offering a high-quality diversified program of sports and recreational activities. These programs are designed to encourage health, fitness and learning. Our goal is to provide the community with the highest quality staff, parks and programs possible. The department's mission is for these programs to be enjoyable, fun, fulfilling, safe and rewarding for all citizens.
Responsible for social services for all town residents, transportation and meals for elderly, activities and educational programs for all ages.
The Monson Cemetery Commission is responsible for maintaining 10 Town owned cemeteries and the Common located in front of the Lyon Memorial Library.
The mission of the Department of Veteran's Services (DVS) is to be the leading advocate for the more than half-million veterans of the Commonwealth and their families and survivors.
Oversees the safety and well being of Monson residents during a time of local emergency or national crisis. Coordinates the implemenation and execution of strategic plans, as outlined by the state and federal government, with all Town Departments.
