Monson Local Casino Study Committee
Minutes
February 11, 2008
Attendance: Gretchen Neggers, Town Administrator; Marshall Harris, Fire Chief, Chip LaPointe, Building Inspector; Joe Prior, resident; Ed Harrison, Selectman; Kathleen Norbut, Selectman.
Mission Statement - “To compile and collate municipal and citizen concerns/questions about the potential siting of a class III casino in an abutting community upon Monson.”
Minutes were approved and discussion followed about posting minutes on the website to facilitate community access to information.
Ms. Neggers initiated discussion on the future role of the LCSC. The committee would need to continue work in the future should legislation not pass this year but be filed again in the next legislative session. Also, if legislation passed the committee would need to convert the concerns into actual impact action.
Budget discussion followed with concerns expressed about current deficits in funding to provide level services and what the impacts of new demands due to a casino would mean to the fiscal situation that the town faces.
Format for the LCSC report was discussed with suggestions to have a management summary of the process and key concerns of the committee, followed by a tabulation of the key concerns as reported through the citizen survey.
